Most parents find it challenging to pick extracurricular activities for their children, and Shilpa Chinmay Dhamne was no exception.
“Before enrolling my children in activity centers, I spoke to the people in charge to gauge their expertise,” she says. “I noted the center’s environment, its location, and took feedback from existing members. I began documenting all of these in an Excel sheet and created a database of 30 activity centers in Nashik, with all the ratings and reviews.”
The database soon became popular among her friends. That’s when she realized that there was a huge need for this kind of information. Shilpa and her husband created a tech platform with relevant information about these centers and courses, which would answer questions a parent might have.
In 2016, they started Book My Activity, an e-commerce platform that helps users search for and enroll youngsters into verified, rated, and reviewed classes for activities such as arts and crafts, dance, music, sports, tuition (private tutoring), and entrance exams coaching.
They engage with around 8,000 to 10,000 customers in a week via the WhatsApp Business app to send them information, updates, broadcasts, and links. According to Shilpa, since they began using WhatsApp, the communication process has become easier and their customer service scores have improved. She adds that the best part of using WhatsApp is the chat history, which is a great way to reference interactions with customers.
