Lead Counsel, WhatsApp (Litigation, Regulatory, and Law Enforcement)

This role is broad and could involve, among other things, regulatory and litigation matters, intellectual property and law enforcement matters, and regulatory compliance related to areas such as telecom and competition, among other things. You must have flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and organizational needs. In addition, you must have the ability to operate independently in a fast-paced, small but growing environment and work proactively with various teams, including the business, product management, engineering, finance, tax, and customer support teams. This is a full-time position based in WhatsApp’s offices in Menlo Park, California and will report to WhatsApp’s Associate General Counsel responsible for Regulatory, Litigation and Law Enforcement.

Responsibilities

  • Advise company in connection with regulatory and litigation matters.
  • Manage a litigation portfolio, including litigation arising out of law enforcement process and requests, regulatory matters, and intellectual property matters.
  • Counsel on regulatory compliance in a variety of areas.
  • Work on projects in other areas, including areas involving unfamiliar subject matters.
  • Work in fast-paced environment and provide advice under tight deadlines.
  • Travel may be required.

Minimum Qualification

  • J.D. degree and membership in at least one state bar.
  • 5+ years of relevant experience, including prior in-house experience with Internet or technology companies and/or a law firm.
  • Experience in at least one or more of the following areas: litigation, global regulatory compliance, law enforcement.
  • Experience working with in-house clients and business partners.
