WhatsApp is looking for an experienced communicator to manage our external reputation building efforts in Asia Pacific. The successful candidate will play a critical role in engaging media and key opinion leaders in the region on how WhatsApp is used to communicate privately, with a deep commitment to protecting people’s personal messages with end-to-end encryption. It is an exciting time for us as more people and businesses are drawn to the value that WhatsApp brings to their daily lives, and as investments in the region continue to grow. Our approach is focused on telling thoughtful and meaningful stories about the different communities that use WhatsApp. As the business continues to grow, we need someone who is able to work with different teams across the global WhatsApp network, including cross functional colleagues who are contributing to various areas where we are making significant social impact. We’re looking for someone who is experienced in executing multi-stakeholder campaigns and handling corporate issues. This is a hands-on role with significant day-to-day responsibilities and an opportunity to be part of a growing communications practice in one of our most important regions. This is a full time role based in Singapore and reports to the Head of Communications for APAC
Lead communications efforts for the WhatsApp product in key countries in the region. This could range from global feature launches, to developing campaigns to tell strong local stories, as well as handling issues as they arise.
Collaborate with internal teams and manage PR agencies to execute these efforts.
Work closely with cross-functional teams both in the region - to include policy and partnerships - as well as in the US on a regular basis.
Develop and maintain relationships with media and opinion leaders.
Work closely with the Head of Communications for WhatsApp in APAC.
10+ years of experience in communications/public relations.
Has spent at least 3+ years in regional roles with large organisation.
Familiar with the media (traditional & social) environment in APAC, especially in South East Asia.
Experience working with tech, corporate, with a track record of developing campaigns in Asia that help to achieve Product and Policy goals.
Excellent communications and decision-making skills.
Self-starter with a desire to expand our communications efforts across the region.
