How WhatsApp can help you stay connected during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic

Educators

Whether you teach at a school or university, consider engaging with your students on WhatsApp if schooling is disrupted.*

Please use WhatsApp responsibly while connecting with your customers. Only communicate with users you know and those who wish to receive messages from you, ask customers to save your phone number in their address book, and avoid sending automated or promotional messages to groups. Not following these simple best practices could result in complaints from other users and possibly an account ban.

If you are new to WhatsApp, click here for a step-by-step guide on how to get started.

Stay connected with your students

If you don’t already have student phone numbers, create a universal link that students can use to initiate a WhatsApp chat with you. Share the link through email, your Facebook page, or any other non-public channel.

Deliver lessons on WhatsApp

Share lessons in the form of text and voice messages. Facilitate discussions between students, just as you would in person, by creating a group for each class.

Send and receive assignments

Use broadcast lists to assign homework to many students at once. Only contacts who have added you to their phone’s address book will receive your broadcast message. Responses will only go to you so students can reply with completed assignments.

Be available to your students remotely

Provide real-time learning opportunities with group voice and video calls.

Keep students engaged

Give your classes a behind-the-scenes look at your day by posting status updates.

Send messages from your computer

Use WhatsApp Web to manage a large number of WhatsApp messages quickly and efficiently from your desktop.

*WhatsApp is only for use in accordance with applicable laws and the WhatsApp Terms of Service, including the minimum required age to use our services. Do not encourage students or others to use WhatsApp if they are under the minimum required age, or require students to use WhatsApp on a mandatory basis.
