Associate General Counsel, Global Payments & Regulatory

This role involves leading and handling cutting-edge and complex legal projects and matters involving financial regulatory and other regulatory compliance areas. You must have flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and organizational needs. In addition, you must have the ability to operate independently in a fast-paced, small but growing environment and work collaboratively and proactively with the legal teams well as other internal and external stakeholders. This is a full-time position, and will be based at our headquarters in Menlo Park, CA.

Responsibilities

  • Represent company before financial regulators and other relevant parties across the world
  • Implement compliance strategy with applicable law and regulations across the world relating to payments, privacy, security, consumer protection, marketing, competition, and telecom, among other areas
  • Manage a growing team of attorneys
  • Support payments regulatory compliance and other counseling matters globally
  • Support other areas as necessary globally
  • Review and advise on pending and developing applicable law and regulation relating to payments globally, working with the policy team
  • Collaborate with other members of the WhatsApp and Facebook legal and policy teams on the above as appropriate
  • Review and draft related agreements (e.g. payment processing and related services agreements, licenses and intellectual property agreements, and vendor services agreements)
  • Must be flexible and willing to work on projects in other areas, including areas involving unfamiliar subject matters
  • Travel globally

Minimum Qualification

  • J.D. degree and membership in at least one U.S. state bar
  • 10+ years’ experience as a practicing attorney
  • 6+ years’ experience doing payments regulatory compliance work and supporting and/or litigating complex payments regulatory and compliance matters and representing companies in payments regulatory inquiries
  • Payments regulatory experience, including engagement experiences and relationships with applicable regulatory bodies
  • Experience learning new areas of law and regulation in a variety of jurisdictions
  • Experience developing approaches to legal challenges while providing legal advice
  • Experience leading projects with cross-functional stakeholders

Preferred Qualification

  • Experience managing teams of attorneys
  • Experience working with mobile and other Internet and technology companies
  • Experience working in a fast-paced environment and providing advice under deadlines
