Lead Counsel, Litigation and Regulatory

This role is broad and could involve, among other things, regulatory, litigation, integrity, and intellectual property matters. You must have flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and organizational needs. In addition, you must have the ability to operate independently in a fast-paced, small but growing environment and work proactively with various teams, including the business, product management, engineering, finance, and customer support teams, among others. This is a full-time position based in WhatsApp’s offices in Menlo Park, California and will report to WhatsApp’s Director and Associate General Counsel responsible for Regulatory, Litigation, Intellectual Property, and Integrity.

Responsibilities

  • Advise company in connection with regulatory and litigation matters.
  • Manage a litigation portfolio, including litigation arising out of data protection, privacy, regulatory, and consumer protection matters, among others.
  • Work on projects in other areas, including areas involving unfamiliar subject matters.
  • Work in fast-paced environment and provide advice under tight deadlines.
  • Travel may be required.

Minimum Qualification

  • J.D. degree and membership in at least one U.S. state bar.
  • 5+ years of attorney experience, including prior in-house experience with Internet or technology companies and/or a law firm.
  • Experience with litigation and/or regulatory matters.
  • Experience working with in-house clients and business partners.

Preferred Qualification

  • Experience handling international litigation matters
